"...There are no small problems. Problems that appear small are large problems that are not well understood..."

Hello Reader ,

Welcome to Backpropagate, a platform for curious tech & science fans.

We aim to summarise for you the emerging knowledge, must-read papers, repos, multimedia… to keep you updated with the evolution, engaged and inspired.

Have you heard?

🤷🏻‍♂️ So what? Well, as equally as being exciting news that this could greatly accelerate disease research and prevention, it also delivers a realisation of biosecurity risk by potentially enabling individuals without proper training to develop bioweapons (or any other weapons). Highlighting the need for safeguards and regulations from AI companies and policymakers to put more effort into mitigating these dangers. This Time article, as extreme as it may be, helps the general public become aware.

🤷🏻‍♂️ One step closer to hopefully one day removing the digital divide in education for areas where internet access is unreliable, non-existent, and where the environment is challenging. In a digital world, everyone should have equal opportunities!

  • ☢️ 🎯🧩 Game technology for determining if bullets hit targets in digital games helps in nuclear fusion stability.

🤷🏻‍♂️ An algorithm developed by researchers at South Korea's Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology can detect collisions between high-speed particles and the interior walls of a virtual nuclear fusion reactor. When applied to V-KSTAR, a digital twin of the KSTAR nuclear fusion experimental reactor, the algorithm was 15 times faster in collision detection than the system previously was. Isn't it beautiful how everything is multidisciplinary… Games-Fusion.. wow

Source: IAEA - What is Nuclear Fusion? It is a reaction that powers the sun. Imagine taking two tiny, light atoms and smashing them together with incredible force. When they collide and stick together (fuse), they release a huge amount of energy – that's nuclear fusion! It promises a clean and virtually limitless energy source without long-lived radioactive waste. The opposite is what we use nowadays. Nuclear fission - atoms collide, collision produces energy + radioactive waste. Why don’t we have nuclear fusion yet? Well, among many challenges, it is hard to stabilise it.

🤷🏻‍♂️ “Were all instructors to realise that the quality of mental process, not the production of correct answers, is the measure of educative growth, something hardly less than a revolution in teaching would be worked.”- John Dewey, Education and Society. Love it!

🤷🏻‍♂️ Hmm… 🤔

🤷🏻‍♂️ Wondering how common the "Illusions of Competence" is? 🤔 💭 It is a psychological phenomenon where individuals believe they understand something or can perform a task much better than their actual abilities would suggest.

Did you know?

🌳🎋 Of all the materials sent to space, wood might be the most surprising. The Japanese researchers conducted a 10-month experiment aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and found that Honoki 🌲 was the timber most suited for space applications. (reference)

Trivia Question:

🏆 What common everyday technology is based on a theory that Albert Einstein won the Nobel Prize for (not for his theory of relativity)?
