🪴 Researchers at the Francis Crick Institute have developed a new stem cell model of the mature human amniotic sac, which replicates the development of the tissues supporting the embryo from two to four weeks after fertilisation.
🤷🏻♂️ So what? Well, the new model can be used to study the origin and function of the human amnion and help identify previously unknown ways the amniotic sac might support embryonic development. It also holds promise for medical procedures that make use of the amniotic membrane.
The amnion is a protective membrane that balloons into a sac containing amniotic fluid, which leaves the body when the mother’s waters break before labour. Until recently, its major role was thought to be surrounding and protecting the baby, cushioning it against shocks and allowing nutrients to pass before the placenta forms. However, amniotic-derived cells generally have low immunogenicity, meaning they are less likely to trigger an immune rejection response when transplanted into a recipient. This makes them highly attractive for allogeneic (donor-derived) therapies. Also, the amniotic membrane and its derived cells possess potent anti-inflammatory and anti-scarring properties, which are beneficial for wound healing and tissue repair.
Researchers haven’t been able to study the amnion in detail because current stem cell embryo models don’t typically capture later stages of human development and, for ethical reasons, human embryos can’t be studied after fourteen days.
📈 AI chip maker Nvidia announces the NVIDIA Constellation AI Factory in Taiwan. Meanwhile, OpenAI plans to build a 5-gigawatt data centre (the surface size of Monaco…). At the same time, it has started building the first Stargate data centre.
🤷🏻♂️ So what? Well, it is the astonishing scale at which centralisation of computational resources is happening, which leads to energy demands, which also leads to the acceleration of AI development. Yet, social disruption and Environmental impact, we don’t understand.
📣 Google announced the launch of its AI Futures Fund, a new initiative that seeks to invest in startups.
🤷🏻♂️ Google has been making big commitments over the past few months to support the scientific breakthroughs. It promises new founders the ability to work with Google experts from DeepMind and Google Labs, and use Google Cloud credits.
🥷🏻 Software Engineers might be interested to know that Google also announces an evolutionary coding agent, AlphaEvolve, for general-purpose algorithm discovery and optimisation.
🤷🏻♂️ AlphaEvolve verifies, runs and scores the proposed programs using automated evaluation metrics. These metrics provide an objective/quantifiable assessment of each solution’s accuracy and quality. This makes AlphaEvolve helpful in a broad range of domains where progress can be measured, like in math and computer science.

Have you ever seen?
💻🧽 How does it look from inside a manufacturing factory that produces computer chips?
🤷🏻♂️ Attention to details, processes and cleanliness.. Unbelievable! Think about the complexity of the process, which includes more than 1000 steps to complete to have a single product that powers all our computers today. If someone says the level of manufacturing we have achieved so far as a civilisation is not fascinating, it would be hard to believe.

🐥 Google has finally officially released the NotebookLM apps for Android and iOS. The app I love! You can drop a PDF, link, video, or any material you want, and it can create a podcast-style overview or have a dialogue about it! How is it different from all other GPT platforms, you ask? Well, let’s put it simply, this is the app's speciality! (reference)
